Thirty years ago, when Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Rick Monday woke up, he probably had no idea that he would participate in one of the 100 greatest moments in Major League Baseball history. The National Baseball Hall of Fame has deemed that Monday's rescue of the American Flag deserved such accolades. When two fans ran out onto the field with a flag, lighter fluid, and matches, Monday, a former Marine, did what came naturally, he ran over and took the flag away from the would-be flag burners. As the two men were ushered off the field, the crowd spontaneously began singing "God Bless America" in unison. What a great moment in baseball history. I'd love to see a video clip.
