I woke up early on this particular Sunday morning at my sister's place in Chicago. I called a riend who is goig through a rough time and prayed for them. A little later I took Matt to wrigley Field to see if I could get tickets for all five of us to go to the game. I could not. Matt and I, while we were near Wrigley Field, stopped by the souvenir shops, just to look.

We bought groceries at Jewell where the check out lady saved me 10 by using her owndiscount card, which was so very nice. She noticed my Alabama shirt and mentioned today's heat and how hot it was when she visited a relative in Sylacauga, AL in August one year. She said that she would never visit Alabama in August again.

We then drove back to Cara's and ate with her and the boys. Cara and I decided that I would take David to see if we could get tickets for all five of us again, since the ticket lady said to come back closer to game time. I told her that I would call her and let her know what we could find out. We were not able to get five tickets. So I asked if they had two tickets together (for david and I). The ticket man said, "How would you like the best seats you ever had, on the first row?!" David's eyes lit up and I couldn't resist. We were actually on Row #1, but rows a, b, c, and d were in front of us.

It was extremely hot. We were early, as usual. The gates opened right as we were purchasing out tickets so we walked right in and found our seats, just behind the Mets on-deck circle. The Mets were taking batting practice when we arrived. David was so fortunate because I saw Mets star David Wright heading for the dugout with a towel around his shoulders having just finished batting practice. I told David that he should go over there and see if he would sign an autograph. Mr. wright was so nice, and signed a ball for David an one other person before he had to go. David also was able to be one of a few to get Carlos Delgado's autograph. He signed David's program. One of the ushers commented to David about how lucky he was to get a possible future hall of famer's autograph. David wright has really made a name for himself as one of baseball's up and coming stars, especially after his performance in the All Star Game and the All Star Home Run Derby.

I called my friend Rob and we chatted about what was going on in baseball. Rob was nice to agree to tape the game so that I can give it to David later as a gift. The game itself was amazing. I have posted links to the recap and box score above so I won't go into many details. It was a roller coaster ride for David, though, as the Cubs took and early lead only to see the Mets take over later. It was really cool for me to see Julio Franco "up close" as he is one of my favorite players and an inspiration to all of us 40-something guys who like baseball. What a day!
